Solitude Is Bliss are a Thai alternative rock band from Chiang Mai, who formed in 2013. The band’s current lineup consists of: Art (Panthakorn Thongnen), Beer (Pathanin Sitthi), Dong (Jomyoot Wongto), Fender (Thanaphol Chumkhammool) and Pound (Songpon Kaewwongwarn).
Lead guitarist and vocalist, Beer, had written the bare bones for the song 4.00AM, which he took to four friends from the local music scene. Together, they developed it into an era defining anthem. They put it with 4 other tracks, that Beer and Fender shared songwriting duties on and released Montage EP in 2014. The quality of this EP, combined with the band’s tight, energetic live show quickly cemented their status as powerhouse of the Thai indie scene.
Since then, they have written and released two full studio albums, one EP, two singles for their old label, Minimal Records’, compilation Nokkrajock Project, and 2 tracks commissioned for the film Morrisson (2023) – all the while headlining festivals and shows up and down the country. They ventured outside of Thailand once in 2019, by invitation, to go and win the Hong Kong Asia Pacific Youth Band Sound Competition (held in Hong Kong), with Pound picking up best keyboardist too. The band also picked up a Kom Chad Luek award for their 2019 album, Please Verify That You Are Not A Robot.
In 2021, Frank, the band’s drummer, decided to up sticks and move to America. After some soul searching, Solitude opted to audition for a new drummer and keep the show on the road. As it was the end of an era, the band also took the plunge to leave Minimal Records, who they had been with since day one. They set up their own label, Pollinate Records, added Art to the lineup and turned out Such A Vast Sea (POL001), a six track EP that was released early 2023.
The band are always experimenting and developing, they are not content to stick to what they know and hope that in the coming months they can expand their experience further with more international trips too.
